ARCHIVE: LOOKING AT CARS 7 – CAR IN A CLOUDBURST (MONO + COLOUR)
September 10, 2020 15 Comments
Car caught in a rainstorm, seen through the windscreen of my car, in the rooftop car park at Broadwalk Shopping Centre in south Bristol; 29 July 2013.
The overriding texture, which disrupts the car’s white outlines, is caused by water streaming across my windscreen. The black structure just below centre left is the car’s side mirror, which has been raised into the parked position. Some colour has been restored to the car’s windows.
Our English “summer”! After a fortnight or more of oppressive heat, waves of thunderstorms are now rolling northwards, bringing gloom to our rooms at 3 o’clock on “summer’s” afternoons!
The Looking at Cars series: looking back through the nine years of the FATman Photos archives (and some new images too), I’m posting pictures of cars in various contexts and styles. Earlier Looking at Cars posts are here: 1 (with context); 2 3 4 5 6 .
Click onto the image to open a larger version in a separate window – recommended.
Technique: G11 PowerShot at 140mm (35mm equiv); 400 ISO; conversion to mono and selective restoration of colour in Silver Efex Pro 2, jumping in at the Dramatic preset.

Oh, I was away for too long, sorry to leave so many comments at once. I can feel that rain! We are finally getting it today. 🙂

Yes, you’ve been away, no problem at all about all the comments – but have you been ok?

As you know by now, yes, fine. Just too much in the inbox, and too many other distractions, but mainly good ones.

Two thoughts: First, excellent abstract. Anyone not familiar with your work would have be hard-put to imagine the scene behind the rainy window. Second, can you please pull some strings and sent some of this rain our way? We’re already three weeks into spring and the dry season is coming, and our water reservoirs are only at 2/3 ideal capacity.

Very glad this gets to you, my friend. Seems to world’s weather is all over the show; our now damaged climate. We had record heat recently, but are shortly to be in airflow from the Arctic. Take care and stay safe, my friend. Maybe you are better off there. The US seems to be in a bad place at the moment, what with Trump, the death of RBG, Covid and wildfires. Take care.

We are taking care and are sitting tight, happy to be in a comfortable position to do so.

I love this one, Adrian! Yes, it’s abstract, but I could tell before reading your post’s title that we are looking at a car. Your composition allows that.
