Early morning bus, inbound to the city centre, at Temple Meads.
A roaring dual carriageway passes the approach road that leads up to Temple Meads Railway Station, and there are busy stops for the buses bringing people into the city centre from the south. Some passengers carry on into the city, others leave the buses here to catch trains, so that the buses spend some time at the stops before moving off again.
I got onto a traffic island in the middle of the dual carriageway, which halved the range to the buses, leaned on a lamppost and waited to see what would materialise. I was looking for buses with steamy windows – some had them, some were clear, and on the towering double-deckers, it was more usually the windows on the upper deck that were misty.

This has to be one of my favorites–you couldn’t have set it up any better if you’d tried, even with the help of a dozen roadies!

Really amazing, Adrian, the way this person looks to be underwater. The softness is perfect, the composition spot on, it’s just terrific!

I’ve been going back through your series, and I am such a big fan of your bus photos. Have you considered taking the photos while you’re on the bus as well?

Thank you for your good words. The Going To Work series was quite a departure for me, since I’d rarely done candid work before. The bus photos are an unforeseen development. But taking pictures while actually on the buses, much as I’d like too, would be a completely different ball game that I’m not sure I’d enjoy, since there would inevitably be more stress involved – and really enjoyment is the whole basis of the project, and my photography in general I suppose. However, I don’t know how Going To Work will evolve from here, if at all, I’ll just wait to see what happens – I’m an ideas man, but this tends to send me off in all directions. I very much enjoyed the Modern Art on your blog, that’s quite an interest of mine. Adrian 🙂

This is a great shot. Curious clothes, skeleton glove and cryptic writing and with the main subject oblivious in their iPod musical bubble. Lots to enjoy and someone could write a story off the back of this one.
I very much enjoy reading about how you get your photographs. Always plenty of inspiration and food for thought. Cheers, Mr C 🙂

Thanks, Mr C! Glad about the inspiration and food for thought things, that’s very satisfying. I’m always open to discussing technique, and never keep any of my methods secret. 🙂
