Left to right, a Little Egret and two Great White Egrets – three herons – processed with Silver Efex Pro 2.

And good news!  Google acquired Silver Efex Pro 2 (and the other Nik Collection plug-ins) sometime back, but had ceased developing them and was plainly losing interest.  The situation has (hopefully!) now been saved by DxO, who have acquired these plug-ins from Google, apparently with a view to further developing them.  I’m very happy with SEP2 and Color Efex Pro 4 as they are, and so just knowing that they’re not going to disappear will be a big thing.

Technique: the X-T2 firing at 200 ISO, and really quite a tribute to what this APS-C format camera can achieve with distant subjects.  X-T2 with 55-200 Fujinon lens at 305mm (equiv); 200 ISO; Lightroom, using the Velvia/Vivid film simulation; Silver Efex Pro 2, starting at the Strong Infrared Low Contrast preset; Capture NX2; Herons Green Bay, Chew Valley Lake; 24 Nov 2017.

Very striking image Adrian. I too hope that SEP2 and Color Efex etc remain available – I find them almost indispensable (although I’m enjoying using Lightroom at the moment)

Very nice, and thanks for keeping up, and keeping us informed. (The Little egret looks like a small goose!).

    • Adrian Lewis says:

Yes, certainly goose like! I’m impressed with the X-T2’s sensor – this shot was taken from far off. 🙂 Let’s hope that SEP2 etc either stay the same or progress – I would HATE for them to disappear!

Interesting shot and YES good news about the plug-ins…I love. Still on Windows 7 and PS 6, not in the cloud. I had already started to wonder if they would still be available for Windows 10…so, your news pleases me!

    • Adrian Lewis says:

Good, great stuff! I’m still on Windows 7 too and very happy to remain so, but I’m subscribing to Lightroom Classic, for now at least – I must say Lightroom works very well with raw files – but Amateur Photographer is going to review other raw processing software soon and I’ll certainly be looking at that.

This blog has two pleasures for me - creating the images and hearing from you - so get your thoughts out to the world!
