Although whether, at this point in time, the storm clouds were meteorological or a reflection of our world, is anyone’s guess.
And you may make what you like of the dramatically lit crucifix. Sitting there under its dubious protection, it was just my hope that if the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were indeed doing their thing in the pub’s car park, that they’d not play merry hell with my little car.

The beauty of the silent camera. I’ve done exactly the same in cafes – appearing engrossed with finger on the shutter release. A wonderful image, masterfully processed, as always by you, Adrian.
My G10 is starting to be well past its sell-by date and I am beginning to search for a second-hand more recent version. It seems that Canon have reached G15 but from what I read recently that is the end of the line.

Andy, your good words are much appreciated – and the processing, well you and I are united in our enthusiasm for SEP. Well, my G11 can’t be that much younger than your G10 and – although admittedly I don’t use it that much – it still seems to be hanging together (it seems very well made) and doing the job – and I simply love the fully articulated screen, just the thing for awkward spaces, and in pubs, cafes, buses, etc. Some at least of the newer versions have less of a zoom range, and I find the G11’s 140mm equiv very useful. Yes, the spec has been altered as the ‘G’ series was updated, and I think the articulated screen was discontinued after the G11 or G12. I value mine for the viewfinder, and not many compacts of this type – good overall spec and pocketability have a viewfinder as in the G range. I use mine in very bright light – skiing and climbing in the Alps and the back screen is just invisible in that bright light. I couldn’t manage without viewfinder, and the camera lives in the chest pocket of my Goretex jacket – easily available.

Oh yes, screens are a real liability in bright light, I can well imagine that you need a viewfinder in the Alps. Maybe something with an electronic viewfinder? The one in my X-T1 is very good, large and easy to look through even with my glasses on, and this camera is good for anything static – but it may be a bit big for your needs.

Fascinating angle(s) and perfect exposure. Did you shoot from the hip or was your subject aware of your interest?

My subject was engrossed, and the great things about the G11 are that its silent, and that it has a fully articulated screen; so I just busied myself looking down into the screen, as someone might look into their mobile phone I suppose, and gently pressed the trigger.
