Portrait of a young Luhya woman from western Kenya; Feb 1978.

OM-2 with 75-150 Zuiko at 130mm; Agfa CT18 colour slide rated at 64 ISO; converted to mono in Silver Efex Pro 2.

UPDATE: I like the simplicity here, and especially the completely plain, pale background, which I think was my living room wall.  Because of this very helpful backdrop, this picture is just the woman and the chair.  She is not engaging with the camera at all, there is no eye contact and, to me, her hand on the chair gives the shot a rather wistful aspect.

On another note, today is a minor anniversary for me – on this day, seven years ago, I bought my first digital camera, the Nikon D700.  This was a huge step because I was a very confirmed film user and fan, but the D700 promised to deliver everything my Nikon F6 was capable of, and I took the plunge.  This was a huge piece of luck – had I realised just how good the D700 was going to be, I would have bought two!  Yes, I also have a D800 now which is also good, but its 36MP are just too many for me.  The D700’s 12MP are just fine and, whenever I’m faced with photography that may in any way throw up problems, the D700 is the camera I take with me, every time.

Gem, thank you very much – and I hope you haven’t been hit too hard by all the snow – that storm is due here tomorrow, but it’ll be dropping rain, not the white stuff! Hope you’re all fine! ATP xxx

Lovely photo, lovely light, I like her pose. Can’t help but notice she has a nice ring on her finger.

Thank you for your good words, Paula – and can’t help but notice the ring, eh?! Very observant – but she’s not who you think she might be, although she almost was – how cryptic can I get?! 😉 xxx
