ARCHIVE 108 – INSIDE CABOT CIRCUS

Facade inside Bristol’s Cabot Circus; 24 Apr 2013.

This is Bristol’s newest shopping centre, set in the large Broadmead shopping area.  I’m not into shopping too much but my wife knows her way around (woe betide the shop that tangles with her!) and neither of us gets too excited by Cabot Circus.

Like the Cribbs Causeway mall on the city’s northern outskirts, this “inner city mall” has too many designer shops and chains, whereas we’d rather visit lots of interesting little shops, each with their own personality and interest – I remember shopping in York as a much more enjoyable and interesting experience.

Old Fogey?  Probably, but who really cares about the labels others bestow?  And anyway its always good to have aspirations.

Oh, I’ve been shopping in York too… Wonderful.! 🙂
Indoor market, outdoor market, the Shambles with it’s quirky little shops and then the branded shops towards the outskirts of town if you want that too…
Oh, and the river swelled up to a torrent flushing in and out of the hotel carpark.
Our hotel room wasn’t just looking over the river… it WAS over the river. 😀

Yes, York is wonderful – must go there again! I quite like beer – as my American safari clients used to put it, “Gee, Adrian, great British understatement!” – and it seems to be true that the further north you go in England, the better the beer shops are. There was an absolute stunner in York, I’ve never seen so many beers together in in place – nirvana! Which reminds me, I’ve got some Old Tom to slurp down this afternoon – tasty! 🙂
