Looking southeast from East Water Lane; 7 Aug 2014.
A little while back, I posted a picture of trees along this narrow lane, which I like very much. I was walking southwards down the lane, with the morning sun blasting across from my left and throwing the hawthorn trees along the lane’s edge into stark silhouette. I walked on past the hawthorn in this first photo, and then took the shot above, which is of the next tree along.
The two pictures are similar in their content, but in this one I’ve changed the colours in the RAW file to better translate into black and white, and added a strong copper tone to the end result. I have to say that I prefer the composition, simplicity and processing of the first picture, but that the drama and colours here get to me too.
And I must give this Sigma 12-24 DG lens a plug, I can’t recommend it too highly. Its a little bulky – but who cares about that?! – and it cannot use screw-in filters, but its certainly one of my favourite lenses, right up there with the 70-300. I’m using the original version from a decade or more back, but there’s a MKII out now that is supposedly better for digital cameras.
D800 with 12-24 Sigma at 12mm; 200 ISO; Silver Efex Pro 2, starting at the Overexposed EV+1 preset, and adding a strong copper tone.

I saw your comment… “carcinoma on my nose – Arabian and African sun damage I suppose – but fortunately its not malignant; its going to be cut out sometime – and replaced with skin from my ear! ” I didn’t know… And I’m very glad to read its not malignant.

Thanks for the hug, my friend, I can always do with hugs!!! And thank you for your concern too – its seems to be ok, its not spreading and sometimes it almost disappears. I’ll give our dear National Health Service a little longer, and then start enquiring when they’re thinking of removing it.

I promise you that I will, my friend, thank you again for being so concerned, you are a very kind and human person. One thing that I know is that I – and all older people – must get some form of exercise, and I’m making sure I do that – via walks, an exercise bike – and I’m also playing table tennis again, after 40+ years! And you know that I care about your wellbeing too, don’t you? Perhaps we are a pair of worriers!!! A 🙂

I like this, I like the copper tones, much more relaxing than pure black and white.
Hope all goes well with your nose… maybe this will help raise a smile or two while you’re waiting …

LOVE the copper toning. Also very much like the sort of inverse Art Deco-style sunrays (the tree shadows) coming out from the centre.

M, I’m very glad you like it! >>> thank you very much! How are things? I have a carcinoma on my nose – Arabian and African sun damage I suppose – but fortunately its not malignant; its going to be cut out sometime – and replaced with skin from my ear! (Hope I haven’t put you off your lunch…) But an eye test yesterday found that my eyes are healthy despite all that sun!!! Phew! My wife is retiring v soon – she’s had far too much stress at work – there became no thought of work-life balance whatsoever. A 🙂

I empathise with your wife. Stress is no good. The workplace is becoming a difficult place to be for many people. Why does it have to be like that (a rhetorical question).

Because it is (apparently, anyway) not urgent, its not a priority, so I’ve been warned that it won’t be soon. And sure enough its not enlarging (tho the rest of me might be …), in fact it almost disappears at times. I’ll give them awhile.
Rhetorical, yes, right, now I can do with words like that on this blog, makes it a more intellectual read, don’t y’ know; and also gives my readers more practice on google … 🙂 … although its absolutely nothing to do with Gone With The Wind … search again, friends, search again …
But why stressful, even tho its Rhet? Some thoughts: the ever increasing lust for profits, which includes providing service at the speed of light, 24/7, in our busy, modern, vastly competitive, on the go society – and now I’m bursting into song – “Oo, I wanna be civilised just like you, oh yes I do, oo booby doo!” – and don’t you dare send the persons in white coats!!!; having to cover one’s back to safeguard one’s mortgage payments, despite being served up bullshit in gert great dollops; having to balance a demanding job and family life; burgeoning Materialism; increasing alienation from the Natural World. That do you? Have an extra strong fruit tea … byeeeeeee …… 🙂 …..
