Along an Aberaeron street; 24 Sept 2014.
I found New Quay and Aberaeron to be open, fresh, clean, breezy places, and I very much liked the bright colours of many of the houses – on a dark winter’s day, with wind and rain blowing in on a westerly gale, these little towns would indeed be bleak if the colour schemes of the dwellings were all the greys and blacks of streaming wet stone!
And a local in New Quay, someone who has lived there all his life, told me that these are small places, such that everyone knows everyone else, everyone knows everyone else’s business, and gossip is rife. As he put it, “Pardon my french, but if you fart at the top of the town, by the time the news gets down to the harbour, you’ve had a serious accident!”.

I love the anecdote – gossip has a habit of being re-written or amended on its way around a village. I’ve lived in one all my professional life – it was amazing how the best gossips were the old ladies who never left their houses.

Hah, that’s right! Maybe gossip changes because each provider wants to embellish it a bit for greater effect – or maybe its a Chinese Whispers effect! 🙂

It’s a combination of both and also misunderstanding sometimes. Just recently an ex-colleague of mine was reported to me as having died. I made some enquiries and found the story was false. Retired – Yes. Dead – No. I think someone must have said: “do you know X has ‘gone’.” And someone interpreted ‘gone’ in the wrong way as the story was retold

The splash of color is pretty, but the hanging fish are nice touch too. 😉

Glad you caught the fish (so to speak … angling for smile there you know …) they’re inconspicuous but they do add something – thanks my friend! ATP xxx 🙂

Yes, that most definitely must be a good thing, laughing and smiling are two of the Great Worthwhile Things, and I feel making people do those things to be a solid and worthwhile aim. Thanks for your good words. A

I very much like minimal composition like this.

That’s good to hear, Dave, thank you. I was reading something recently about basic things in photography, and it said it straight out – keep compositions simple, that’s the thing! To me its because the eye needs something to fix on in an image, the eye needs to be shown where to look – and if there are masses of visual stimuli in the picture the eye is overwhelmed, confused, and so to a less successful picture.
