My reflection in the eye of a Burrowing Owl at the International Centre for Birds of Prey, Newent, Gloucestershire; 2 July 2014.
The owl? Striking natural beauty, the face of a killer, the last thing many small creatures see of this world.
Me? Classic stance, elbows tight in to my sides to provide a rigid support for the camera and, well, not the slimmest of souls …
D700 with 70-300 Nikkor at 300mm; 3200 ISO.

Brave one, aren’t you? 🙂

No, not brave! The owl’s very small, it could quite easily sit in the palm of my hand – and this is a considerable enlargement of a part of the frame. 🙂

Your favourite to date???!!! Wow, send ample funds sooner than soonest – as Ghostbusters put it, “No job is too big, no fee is too big!”.
And, just for a change, I think I’m going to send you a full quality jpeg – BUT, this image is quite an enlargement, so you may find that it won’t print big, if you’re thinking of printing it. But, once again! >>> ENJOY!!! A xxx

Thank you, D&Z! But you know, I’m not up with things – what is “photo bombing”? Adrian

It’s when you appear in someone else’s “selfie” which technically you’re not doing here, but I thought it might appeal to your sense of humour!

Ah, I see! So that means I think that the owl is photo bombing me by appearing – dominating even! – my selfie >>> the swine!!! A sense of humour? Oh I’ve got one of those alright, and it seems to me that making others laugh and smile is one of the really worthwhile things in Life. So never shirk from humour, its always welcome here! A 🙂

Excellent self portrait, my friend. And different too.
I hope you’re fine! I’m ok, the sun is shining here in Sweden and it feels like summer again.

Malin, thank you! I’m ok – another grand daughter arrived this morning, and we’re having fine weather, although northerly breezes make it chilly sometimes. A 🙂

Fantastic idea on the selfie theme; Insp’eye’red! The softness in the close-up of the owl is marvellous on its own, but to include a selfie in its eye is very imaginative and creative.
It reminds me of a character in the 70s series ‘Space 1999’. You may have been out of the country when it was being shown. During the second series, a character called ‘Maya’ was introduced. She came from another planet and had special characteristics, one of which was to be able to transform into anything she could imagine: a bird, another person, a rock, a plant, etc. You would see the imagined subject in her eye and she would then change into it. Transfer this to your image, and the owl could turn into you 🙂

Oh I love this – thanks for sending it! There’s something about it, its from another age – and it brings that age back to me very vividly – maybe we were more innocent then, and we weren’t polluted by the now standard levels of image and hype. Takes me back to The Avengers – Emma Peel(!!!) and John Steed – wow I feel old, but rejuvenated! 🙂

Thank you very much, my friend, that’s praise indeed!
No, I can’t recall ‘Space 1999’ – I didn’t watch much TV in the 70s, for much of the time I didn’t have a TV, and then it was Kenya – where I didn’t have a phone either, which had decided pluses.
And if the owl’s going to turn into me, its going to find it damned difficult getting airborne … 😉 … tweet twuooo, tweet tuwooooooo …. mayday, mayday!!! …..

“A fine figure of a man” – now is that an accurate medical diagnosis, Andy??? Hope so, but my wife won’t agree >>> and the bird? The bird leaves me standing …even when its not flying … or burrowing …
