SOMERSET LEVELS 162 – POLLARDED WILLOW 2 (MONO + COLOUR)

old pollarded willow on the Somerset Levels

Pollarded willow by the side of Godney Road, west of Batch Farm; 29 May 2014.

An ancient tree that, once taller, has split under its own weight and had its tottering upperparts removed by either man or the natural world.  But still alive enough to produce a crop of new twigs and leaves in the spring.

I’m irresistibly reminded of an old somebody – probably a woman – roaring with laughter and sporting a nice hairdo.

Another image in this series, along with information on pollarding, is here.

D700 with 16-35 Nikkor at 16mm; 800 ISO; Silver Efex Pro 2, starting at the Cool Tones 2 preset and restoring colour.
