Teasels at Stanton Drew, in the Chew Valley, south of Bristol; 1 Aug 2013.

For me, the diffuse darker area “anchors” the shot, helping to push the subject out towards us; and it also displays the thorns on the plant’s stem – and strands of spider’s web – to greater advantage.

You can find an earlier and differently presented Stanton Drew Teasel picture here.   There is also one from the Somerset Levels here.

D700 with 70-300 Nikkor at 300mm; 200 ISO; Silver Efex Pro 2, starting at the Landscape preset.

  1. My mind plays tricks again.
The little round teasel stands to attention, the bee, not a bee at all but an arm raised in a salute towards a cap sporting an array of upright feathers. 😀

    • So its tricksy, precioussss! Your mind ought to go on playing such tricks, they’re absolutely wonderful! 🙂 As always, its not what we look at, its what we see – thanks for your glorious thoughts! A

  2. For me the contrast between dark and light in your picture highlights the most memorable part of this plant, the hard prickly, spikes – ouch!

  3. Must love teasels! I was having so much fun contemplating the depths of geometric detail that it took me a few moments to notice the little bumbly bee. It’s a good thing I wasn’t studying the original, or it might have surprised me even more.
