Leaves trailing from a plant pot at The Point, Bristol harbourside; 11 Apr 2004.
The few green leaves amongst the many leaf shadows on a featureless, bluish ground, are important here – for me, the presence of the colour green enhances the picture.
And two impressions as I resurrect this image from the past. First, Minimalism – there’s really not very much here.
And then shock!!! >>> this is from the past, this was taken nearly a decade ago, not long after I got into what I think of as “conscious” photography >>> time flies by and, quite palpably, I’m getting older by the millisecond …

what if it is horizontal? I feel if it is horizontal leaves will look asif they are dancing in the wind. Just a suggestion 🙂

No, I’ve tried it horizontal – that’s its original orientation of course – but to me it just doesn’t look so good. A

I’m glad it reminds you of that – thank you! I was out walking in the sun this morning – some of the pavements were treacherously icy underfoot, but the birdlife at least are conscious of the year’s change – there was certainly more song than there has been of late.

I love “bubba” – I was drinking with an old friend last night, and he said how he likes you Yanks, how you’re so positive and up for it and not afraid of saying what you want – and that tallies with my opinion of the Americans I met as safari clients – and somehow you epitomise those traits, oh Freak Out First And Ask Questions Later person!
Yes, the green really helps the shot; and the dark blues; so three colours then, and shapes.
And, as is often true with “Missives from Madam”, I have no idea what “Can you say Blurb? ;)” means – have you been overdosing on the coffees and cakes again???
Oh yes, and last night I actually saw an Ipad working, which was a first for me – very impressive!

Yes, you take it personally, that’s the best way to take it … we were thinking of you … he kept blanching blanche! And thinking of you not least because we were drinking not 50 yards from those infamous Colston Hall door-hoardings which loom so large in your legend!
I’ve been feeling off today. I have bursitis, my right elbow is painful and only semi-functional, and I have some bug or other, which has diminished my appetite – but feel better now than I did at 5am.

So you’ve got it too … have intolerable urge to follow that with “Old Lady” …. but simply can’t summon up the nerve … 😉 …….
So, what do you use to treat it with? Until I can get to my doctor, I’m hitting it with painkillers (Paracetamol) and anti-inflammatories (Ibuprofen) – are you using any other types of medecines? I gather that its possible to have injections of I’ve forgotten what.

I do exercises that I was given when I went for therapy and aspercreme. A rub on cream that seems to help some. Bottom line, dealing with it mostly.

Hi Gem, thanks for this info. I seem to have some flu-like bug and am feeling not at all good – feeling pretty gaga in fact. Google tells me that aspercreme is for pain management. I have a call booked to my doctor on Monday, and will take it from there.

Ah, pushed Provia 400–an old friend of mine! I’m also in the process of revisiting and scanning slides from my archives, and enjoying very much the character of the images made on film. The blues and the greens complement each other very well here. I’m glad you didn’t convert this one to mono!

Yes, pushed Provia 400, “the good old days” – but were they? One ridiculously handy facet of digital is the ability to fire off each frame on a different ISO – wow, we’ve never had it so good! You’re right, there is a special character to film images, especially push processed ones – but I’ll never shoot again, I’m quite happy with full colour Raw files and Nikon and Nik software.
The blues and the greens here, absolutely! And you’ll be relieved to know that I didn’t even think about mono in this case! Thanks for your thoughts, my friend! A 🙂

Hmmm…”I’ll never shoot again”…there may be the kernel of a new song there. Maybe it can come to match the popularity of Paul Simon’s Kodachrome–wouldn’t that be a hoot?!
