The camouflaged upperparts of a Ray, lying on the bottom of its tank in Newquay Aquarium, Cornwall; 6 Nov 2007.

This picture is not completely sharp because it was taken looking down through moving water.  But with this wonderful colouration and patterning, I don’t think that matters at all – in fact the whole hazy blueness of the image adds to its atmosphere.

Nikon F6 with 24mm-85mm Nikkor; Fuji Provia 400X colour slide, rated at 1600 ISO.

  1. I’m looking forward to a post about right- and left-brained photographers, Adrian. Hope you find (make) the time soon. From the title, I was expecting rays of sun- or moonlight, and you surprised me again (pleasantly, again).

    • Yes, right, right and left-brained – the papers are hear beside me, and Malin Helleso has also urged me to get moving – I will! Glad you like this shot, Gary >>> and that the surprise was pleasant … because …after all … can’t always guarantee that … on FATman Photos …. 😉

  2. I really like the colours here… It feels like looking into a fantasy world.
Lovely analogue image, Adrian! (My daughter love stingrays). 🙂

Not sharp enough? Everything doesn’t have to be that sharp… I enjoy your image!

    • Hello, Malin, how are you, my friend? Yes, looking into a fantasy world, well put. And we certainly agree about sharpness – why is it that some photographers see complete, total sharpness and their main objective? That seems to me a very blinkered view. Adrian

      • I’m fine – thanks for asking. 🙂 I hope you are fine too, my friend.

There are two categories of photographers ( I always say that there are “photographers” and there are photographers). Category 1: Always (and I mean ALWAYS) talking about technique and sharpness and don’t see that much when they are photographing… Category 2: Talking about images and always seeing something when they are photographing. I hope you know what I mean. 🙂

        • Yes, I do know what you mean – and from my immaculate filing system, i.e. the great, messy stack of paper on the floor beside me, I have retrieved an article relating to this point, talking about right- and left-brained photographers. I’ve been meaning to talk about this on my blog for ages (the article was published in July!), and I’ll try and get round to it.

I’m fine – just recovering from some ailments, but coming out of it all ok – thanks! Adrian

          • “right- and left-brained photographers”- that sounds interesting. 🙂 Well, I do look forward to read this article.

Oh, god to hear that you are recovering (hope it’s not serious).

I wish you (my dear friend) a wonderful weekend – And a very Merry Christmas to you and your family.
