SELF-INDULGENCE 111 – IN AN ALLEYWAY

mmm
Alleyway just off the main street in Ilfracombe, north Devon; 3 Oct 2007 >>> and see another, more cropped (and I think, better) interpretation of this picture on the “W-I-D-E-1″ page, here .
Ilfracombe is a wonderful place for photography. Parts of it are distinctly unkempt and interesting views, patterns, colours and textures are all around. Here, I like the off-white and green coated roughness of the wall, and the way the lines in the brickwork draw my eye back to the prudently barred window. A few leaves make it out into the light from the shrub in the shadows on the right.

It always worth investigating the ‘interesting’ side to places ! Like the powdery lichen and brickwork .
I haven’t been back to Ilfracombe since parts of it were revamped Adrian … It’s gone up and down over the years hasn’t it .
Hello Poppy – good to hear from you! Yes, looking “behind the scenes” often throws up goodies – I read somewhere that our legs are our most powerful photographic tool – both in terms of moving position and varying viewpoint instead of merely zooming in and out, and of getting around and exploring a place to see what its made of and what it has to offer.
Yes, Ilfracombe has gone up and down – its caught between the hills and the sea and has nowhere really to go. But I very much enjoy its alleyways and tattiness – it far more for me in this respect than Barnstaple. And the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe is just something else visually.
Glad you like the picture! Thanks for your good thoughts! Adrian
Ilftacombe sounds like a film stock.
Yes! If you’ve never been there you should take a look. A
Oooo I love a bit of old wall !
Thanks, Helen – photogenic isn’t it? A bit of decay is far more attractive than clean, aseptic newness. Hope you’re fine! Adrian
